This is not
another Windows ME. No way! This is
cool, raw computing power.
Everything I do on my computer: software development, explore new software, learn
to better leverage old software, surf the Net, play computer simulation games, etc.,
etc., etc., is being done on the new Microsoft Windows 7 operating system—it's
fantastic.
Windows 7 runs much faster than Vista on the same system, and it's got a terrific
asset called Windows XP Mode (only in versions above Home Premium). After the XP
Mode is setup on a virtual machine in Windows 7, and much of the software you couldn't
run for years is installed on this XP Mode, your're in for a very big surprise!
I haven't found an application that doesn't run in XP Mode (not yet anyway), and,
when you leave the virtual XP Mode, you can still access these programs from Windows
7 (shortcuts, quick launch, Start menu, etc.) without running the virtual mode.
What happens is: you tell Windows 7 which app you want to run (perhaps by clicking
an icon on the desktop) and it starts the virtual machine, configures it and runs
your application just as if the app were right there on the Windows 7 desktop; and,
it does it very quickly.
Here are two short cases to consider.
Recently a Microsoft executive was ask how Windows 7 was different than Vista. In
a nutshell, he said, Vista had a thousand problems that hadn't been solved; and
Windows 7 elegantly fixes all of those problems.
And a Mac and Windows user from a top (unnamed) computer journal was ask what he
thought about Windows 7 versus Mac. He stated he thought that Windows and Mac were
now finally equal as far as power, but, he said, Windows 7 is sure a lot easier
to use than the Mac. Whoa! Think Apple will make a new TV commercial trying to skirt
the issue? I'd bet on it! (Note: they came out with one just a few weeks later.)
